3 / 1991 - urban parks

The issue is published in Finnish with English summaries of most of the articles.

Urban park is a new or, rather, revitalized building type. It is the public building of the 21st century grassroots democracy. The finest completed projects are to be found in Barcelona. The urban spaces planned by Peter Wilson in Rotterdam and Berlin are still on paper only.

Recycling building materials was a necessity for our forfathers; for us it seems like a new idea. Jari Inkinen, who recently graduated as an interior architect, makes use of excess materials in his diploma design.

Featured projects:
• The outdoor recreation base of Puolarmaari, Espoo, Matti Rautiola and Hannu Kiiskilä
• Recycled waste studio, Espoo, Jari Inkinen

• Aleksin piha – Renovation of Aleksanterinkatu 15, Helsinki, Juhani Pallasmaa
• Townscaping and street furnishing for the Ruoholahti district, Helsinki, Juhani Pallasmaa
