2. Service content and system requirements

The digital edition at ark.fi is a browser-based version of the printed Finnish Architectural Review. The contents of the digital and printed edition are identical. The service does not comprise any supplements to Finnish Architectural Review, such as Architectural Competitions in Finland (Arkkitehtuurikilpailuja).

Reading the digital edition requires registration for the service and an ongoing Internet connection. Magazines cannot be downloaded or saved on personal computers. The service does not include the right to copy the content of the magazines’s pages or print the magazine.

The reader is responsible for ensuring he or she has an Internet connection that is fast enough for using the service and a browser suitable for reading the digital edition. The service was implemented using Flexpaper software and the Adobe Flash and HTML5 languages. The reader can check the suitability of his or her equipment and software by viewing a free sample issue.

3. Registration for the service

The use of the service requires registration and the creation of user account. The data file description of the service is available here. More specific registration instructions are provided in the registration form.

The username and password are personal to the user and may not be assigned to a third party. If the customer is a company or corporation, the credentials may be used by several people, but only in the same location (not, for example, on home computers). Public institutions, such as libraries and educational institutions, must hide the password from users.

These terms are also applied to the members of SAFA and the subscribers of Finnish Architectural Review who are automatically entitled to read the digital edition.

4. Forms of purchase and subscription

The reader may purchase access to the digital edition either as single copies or subscriptions of at least one (1) year.

Single copy

The right to read a single copy is permanent. The reading right is enforced automatically once the purchase has been completed by credit card or online bank transfer. The right to read a single copy can't be assigned to another user account.

Annual or standing subscription

The digital edition may be subscribed to either in periods of one (1) year or as a standing subscription. During the subscription period, the customer has the right to read all the magazines available on the ark.fi web service, including new issues published during the subscription period as well as older, digitised issues. A magazine subscription is processed in 2–5 working days. The subscription is invoiced by email, which also contains an activation code. Entering the activation code in the user account details provides access to the digital editions.

When the subscription ends, the right to read any magazines on the service ends as well. If the user account has single copies that were purchased separately, the right to read them will be retained. Reading rights can be assigned to another user during a subscription period. One activation code may only be used on one account at a time.

Printed Arkkitehti magazine

The aforementioned purchase and subscription options only apply to the digital edition accessed on the website. The printed Finnish Architectural Review can be subscribed to here. The subscription of the printed magazine always includes access to the digital edition. Single copies of Finnish Architectural Review can be purchased by sending an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

5. Payment methods

Annual and standing subscriptions are charged by an invoice emailed to the customer. Single copies are paid for by credit card or online bank transfer. The party implementing the payment gateway and acting as the payment service provider is Paytrail Oyj in cooperation with Finnish banks and credit institutions.

Online bank payment

Payment can be made using online banking credentials issued by Finnish banks.

6. Value added tax

Companies and corporations liable to pay value added tax pay for annual and standing subscriptions according to the tax rate of their country, and the reverse charge mechanism for value added tax can be applied. Consumers and parties purchasing single copies are always charged the value added tax valid in Finland (24% in 2013) regardless of the customer's form of enterprise or domicile.

7. Service limitations

Termination of subscription due to a breach of the terms of use

The Finnish Association of Architects is entitled to disable a customer’s account in the event that the customer fails to pay the subscription invoice or there is a justifiable reason to assume that the account has been used in a manner that breaches the terms of use (e.g., provided to third parties for their use). If the account is disabled due to a breach of the terms of use, previously paid subscription fees will not be refunded.

Termination of the service

Permanent reading rights mean that reading rights will remain in force as long as the digital edition service is provided. In the event that the service is discontinued and the customer loses the right to read the single copies purchased in digital form, the Finnish Association of Architects shall give the customer a discount on the purchase price of the corresponding printed issues.

Technical problems

The Finnish Association of Architects is not responsible for ensuring that the customer's equipment and software are suitable for reading the digital edition. The customer needs to ensure compatibility by viewing a free sample issue.

Due to technical limitations, images are not displayed as accurately in the digital edition as they are in the printed magazine. The Finnish Association of Architects shall not refund the price of a subscription or single copy in the event that the customer complains about the accuracy of images.

Technical reasons (such as software updates) may cause minor service interruptions. The Finnish Association of Architects is liable to compensate any interruptions lasting longer than one week, in which case the subscription period can be extended by a period corresponding to the interruption.

Copyright

Any material published in the digital edition is subject to the Copyright Act. No type of reissue is allowed without the permission of the publisher.

8. Disputes

Any disputes arising out of this agreement shall be settled at the District Court of Helsinki.
