Toni Österlund and Eero Lundén write about the algorithms of the future. The young architects from Oulu have developed new digital design methods that can be used to cost-effectively produce increasingly complex structures and forms. In contemporary architecture, the visual empowers coziness even though coziness is the most important aspect for human beings. Professor emeritus Kaj Nyman criticises contemporary construction and is in search of the fundamentals of applied arts.

Juhani Pallasmaa, who is globally renowned for his essays, sheds light on his personal theory on architecture in his column.  The detour of Finnish modernism, the romanticism of the 1940s, faces re-evaluation. The column describes the influence of romanticism on, for instance, the works of Viljo Revell. In 2010, architecture celebrated its 100th anniversary. The issue also responds to the following questions: What is the magic behind the fantasy architecture in cinema? What are the genres of architecture? Why are there no red light districts in city utopias?
