Completion 2022

Villa Sjöviken is a detached house intended for all-year-round use. The form of the house was inspired by the steep, rocky site, closely following the height differences while leaving the delicate rocky outcrop untouched.

The extensive archipelago vista opens only from high up, after entering the building. The kitchen, dining area and living room are grouped around the heart of the house, a fireplace that opens in two directions. Spaces requiring more privacy are placed in the two other wings of the three-pronged house, the bedroom in the north wing and workrooms in the west wing.

The house comprises only one storey but many levels. The height difference between the lowest and the highest levels is more than four metres, thanks to which moving around the house becomes a powerful, bodily experience derived from the topography of the location.

The timber cladding of the facades has been adapted to the terrain by extending vertical battens all the way to the rock surface. The interior is dominated by the exterior landscape. The selection of surface materials is limited, and the calm atmosphere of the spaces is supported by the marks of careful craftsmanship. ↙
